Skiddaw Fell Race

A fast start, and a gradual climb up Spooney Green Lane, and the path skirting Latrigg, leads to a steep grind up Jenkin Hill. This is followed by a wide track, skirting Skiddaw Little Man, leading to the summit plateau.

Here both the terrain, and (usually) the weather, change dramatically: smooth slopes give way to rough, exposed rock, the temperature drops, and visibility is often limited in low cloud.

The Old Crown Round

Coniston Country Fair Fell Race

The race is kindly being organised by members of the Coniston Fell Running Club and is being run in accordance with FRA rules

The Senior Fell Race, of approx 6 miles & 2400 feet of elevation starts from the main ring at 2.00pm. The runners will then make their way across the main Coniston/Torver road and up towards the fell wall CP1 (& CP3 on return leg) (south of parking area at Coniston Fell Gate) then crossing the wet bog and Walna Scar road at the foot of the Old Man below the quarry. Runners choose their own route from CP1 & ascend some 2400 ft to the top of the mountain (CP2) & return the same way via CP3 to finish in the main arena. Runners have to visit the three marshalled check points (CP’s) on the way. The course is marked up to the fell wall (CP1) - from here they choose their own route.

Lakeland 100 Ultra

The Lakeland 100 'Ultra Tour of the Lake District' is the most spectacular long distance trail race which has ever taken place within the UK. The circular route encompasses the whole of the lakeland fells, includes in the region of 6300m of ascent and consists almost entirely of public bridleways and footpaths. The route starts in Coniston and heads South before completing a clockwise loop which takes in the Dunnerdale fells, Eskdale, Wasdale and Buttermere before arriving in Keswick. From here the route heads to Matterdale and continues over to Haweswater before returning via Kentmere, Ambleside and Elterwater to the finish at Coniston.
