So 2016 is now in full swing! What can this year bring in terms of fitness trends? Well according to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) there are some noticeable changes for the new year.

Firstly, there is a new number 1 trend! You can probably work out what it is from the picture above, but if you can’t, it’s ‘wearable technology’.

With the release of gadgets such as the Apple Watch, Jawbone UP2, Fitbit Charge HR and many others, 2016 seems to be the year of the wearable. With technology becoming more and more accurate, the market for the fitness tracking devices has boomed and is expected to reach $6 billion in sales for 2016. Not bad for a trend that wasn’t even on the radar last year!

Also appearing for the first time in the top 20 for 2016 is ‘smart phone exercise apps’. This is surely no big surprise as many people are unlocking the full potential of their smart phones and using them as more than just a contacting device. Smart phone apps allow the user to do so many different things now, making them a great tool for fitness goals.
