Ever since my outdoor education module at university I’ve absolutely loved exercising outdoors! Whether it’s cardio or bodyweight based, there’s nothing quite like taking in the scenery and breathing the fresh air while you train.

Training in a natural environment makes you feel good! Multiple studies have shown a link between your physical and mental wellbeing and outdoor activity, although the science isn’t fully understood yet. One such study conducted by the University of Essex [1] suggested that outdoor activity can increase feelings of vigour, as well as making people feel more active and energetic.

As well as this, it is important to remember that variety in your training is important for keeping you motivated. If you’re in the gym every training session then you may get bored quite easily. Maybe it’s time to change things up, and excuse the cliché but variety is the spice of life!

Luckily for us in Cumbria, we are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to scenery. Carlisle has inner-city parks, the Lake District is just on many of our doorsteps, and those on the west have the seafront. So what are you waiting for? Get outdoors!
